We were saddened to learn of the recent passing of Alma Johnson Powell, wife of the late Secretary of State Colin Powell. In many ways, General Powell embodied General Marshall’s timeless model of selfless, effective ethical leadership and “five-star character.” The Marshall Center extends its deepest sympathies to the Powell family at this difficult time.

This week, Marshall Center Board Member Randy Minchew testified before the House Committee on Natural Resources Federal Lands Subcommittee on behalf of the George Marshall House Affiliated Area Designation Bill, which would designate Dodona Manor as an affiliated area under the National Park Service (NPS).

In war, as in all human endeavors, there are no perfect solutions to the problems people face. No matter what action we take, there is always some degree of doubt, risk and unintended consequence. That reality confronts leaders at all levels at all times.

Sixteen high school students spent a lively three days at Dodona Manor this week participating in the inaugural Camp Marshall. These future leaders honed their skills – and had fun – in a myriad of ways each day.

On Friday, April 12, 2024, ethical leadership and generous support for the mission of the George C. Marshall International Center were once again in the spotlight.

Avid vegetable gardener Tom Watson, who grew up on a farm outside of Leesburg, has generously volunteered his time tending to Dodona’s gardens since 2020.

The George C. Marshall International Center today released The Inspiration of Great Principles: 2023 Impact Report of the George C. Marshall International Center, which highlights the organization’s work in telling the story of George C. Marshall, preserving historic Dodona Manor and inspiring leaders of today and tomorrow to live up to his example.

On June 24-26, 2024, the George C. Marshall International Center will host Camp Marshall, a free summer leadership experience for interested high school students to learn about the center’s ethical leadership model and build teamwork skills in a fun, supportive environment. The camp will be held at Dodona Manor in Leesburg daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
