2020 Veterans Day Commemoration at Dodona Manor
At the former home of Gen. George C. Marshall, dignitaries in Leesburg were joined by about 80 people Wednesday morning to honor veterans and the sacrifices they have made by serving this country.
Valerie Beaudoin, executive director of the George C. Marshall International Center, told the Times-Mirror the organization is proud to host the event for the 16th year in order to honor veterans.
“General Marshall found it very important to take care of our troops in his lifetime, and we like to do the same,” she said.
This year’s Veterans Day commemoration hosted by the George C. Marshall International Center on Wednesday reflected not only on the commitment and sacrifices of those in military service, but also the continuing efforts to preserve the home of the American general and statesman.
Retired Rear Admiral Thomas C. Lynch provided the keynote remarks under a tent on the lawn of Marshall’s Dodona Manor along Edwards Ferry Road.
“Not only are we here to honor General Marshall—and thank all of you for the job you’ve done to maintain this home and have it here to make it possible to have a place to reflect on and honor a great stateman such as hm—but also on this day when we think about those in uniform and those who have worn the uniform and what it means to us as a nation,” Lynch said.
LEESBURG, Va. (WDVM) — The annual Veteran’s Day Commemoration was held at George C. Marshall’s Dodona Manor on Wednesday to honor those who have served and their families.
“When we talk about veterans’ day, we have to remember the families of veterans, because they serve too,” said Phyllis Randall, Chair-at-large, Loudoun County Board of Supervisors.
Speakers praised the namesake himself, General George C. Marshall, for his leadership in constructing a powerful army during World War II.
